Introduction

കൊല്ലം പട്ടണത്തിന്റെ ഹൃദയഭാഗത്ത്‌ പട്ടത്താനം ദേശത്ത്‌ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന പഴമയും പെരുമയും വിളിച്ചോതുന്ന നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകളുടെ ചരിത്രം പേറുന്ന ഒരു ക്ഷേത്രമാണു പട്ടത്താനം ശ്രീ സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യ സ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം. ശ്രീബാലമുരുകനാണു ഇവിടത്തെ മുഖ്യപ്രതിഷ്ഠ. കേരളചരിത്രത്തിൽ സുവർണ്ണലിപികളാൽ രേഖപ്പെടുത്തേണ്ട ഒരു ചരിത്രം ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനുണ്ട്‌.

അയിത്തം കൊടികുത്തിവാണിരുന്ന ഒരു കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ ഇവിടത്തെ ഈഴവർ നിർമ്മിച്ച്‌ ആരാധന നടത്തിയ ക്ഷേത്രം. 1888ലെ അരുവിപ്പുറം ക്ഷേത്രപ്രതിഷ്ഠക്കും 1936 ലെ ക്ഷേത്രപ്രവേശന വിളംബരത്തിനും മുൻപ്‌ ഈക്ഷേത്രം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നുവെന്ന് 1905ൽ ൽ രജിസ്ട്രാക്കിയിട്ടുള്ള ക്ഷേത്രപ്രമാണത്തിൽ നിന്ന് മനസ്സിലാക്കാം.

ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ ദേശദേവനായി ദേവസേനാധിപനായ ദണ്ഡായുധപാണിയായ ഭഗവാൻ ശ്രീസുബ്രഹ്മണ്യസ്വാമി വരദാനഹസ്തമുയർത്തി ഭക്തരിൽ അനുഗ്രഹവർഷം കോരി ചൊരിഞ്ഞു കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു! മനമുരുകി പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ചാൽ ശ്രീമുരുകൻ കരുണക്കടലായി സർവ്വാഭീഷ്ടവും സാധിക്കുമെന്ന് അനുഭവസ്ഥരായ നൂറു കണക്കിനു ഭക്തർ സാക്ഷ്യപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു!

In the heart of Kollam town, in the area of Pattathanam, stands the Pattathanam Sree Subrahmanya Swami Temple, a sacred temple that proclaims its ancient heritage and carries centuries of history.The main deity here is Sri Bala Murugan (Lord Subrahmanya in his child form). The temple holds a history that deserves to be recorded in golden letters in the history of Kerala.

This temple was built and worshipped by the Ezhavas of this place during a period when untouchability was rampant. It can be understood from the temple document registered in 1905 that this temple existed before the consecration of the Aruvippuram temple in 1888 and the temple entry proclamation in 1936.

As the presiding deity of this region, Lord Subrahmanya Swami, the commander of the divine army (Devasenadhipathi) and Dandayudhapani, stands with his hand raised in blessing, showering grace and blessings upon devotees. Hundreds of devotees who have experienced His divine grace testify that if one prays with a sincere and melting heart, Lord Murugan—an ocean of compassion—will fulfill all wishes and prayers.
